EU-funded research: Smart Mobility

AutoDrive

Project title

Advancing fail-aware, fail-safe, and fail-operational electronic components, systems, and architectures for fully automated driving to make future mobility safer, affordable, and end-user acceptable

Funding mechanism

H2020, ECSEL JU

Timing

01 May 2017 – 30 April 2020

Description

Self-driving cars are the future in mobility, and provide economic opportunities for the automotive and semiconductor industry. Currently, the most sophisticated automated vehicle does not surpass driver skills, and there is no common agreement on quantifiable measures for hardware and software requirements for safe driving. AutoDrive will create a pan-European eco-system to set these standards and provide the components and subsystems for automated driving. AutoDrive results will significantly contribute to safer and more efficient mobility.

ENABLE-S3

Project title

European initiative to enable validation for highly-automated safe and secure systems

Funding mechanism

H2020, ECSEL JU

Timing

01 May 2016 – 30 April 2019

Description

Automated cyber-physical systems are disruptive technologies with the potential to greatly impact industry and society. Handing over tasks to machines, can improve safety and productivity. However, validation and verification of these systems are still a difficult and cost-intensive exercise, impeding commercialization. ENABLE-3S will setup a validation framework with virtual testing and coverage-oriented selection methods. In doing so, the project will facilitate the application of automated and autonomous systems in the mobility sectors, as well as the health-care domain.
